History hunting in Baildon

Hunting prehistoric art work in the village of Baildon, West Yorkshire. I think it's quite amazing that this moorland village has been occupied for around 5000 years. These markings were probably made in the early neolithic period. But what do they mean?

Cup and ring marks are mainly found in Atlantic Europe (Northern England, Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Portugal and Galicia (North West Spain) and Mediterranean Europe (North West Italy, Thessalia Central Greece, Switzerland).

They consist of a concave depression, no more than a few centimetres across, pecked into a rock surface and often surrounded by concentric circles also etched into the stone. Sometimes a linear channel called a gutter leads out from the middle.
