The railway children

It was a step back in time when we spent the day in Brontë Country. The K.W.R. vintage steam trains which run from Keighley to Oxenhope made the journey super stylish. The weather was perfect, the boys enjoyed watching the engineers in flat caps and waistcoats coupling the engine to the carriages, and the stations themselves were all so lovingly preserved.

This famous train line and surrounding villages were used for the 1970's movie classic "The Railway Children" which I confess I've never actually watched. Of course I have heard of it, and now that we have been on location I will have to sit down with the DVD.  With sandwiches, cold drinks and ice-cream in our tummies we completed the "Railway Children" circular walk, visiting various locations seen in the movie. Download the map for free here.

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway have a special offer this summer for families. Kids travel free during the months of June, July and August. Something tells me we will be back to explore again this summer.
